About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist for an immediate temp-to-hire opportunity. This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable and growing organization where you will play a critical role in managing high-volume, multi-state payroll operations.
This position will be 100% in-office during the temporary assignment period to support training, collaboration, and onboarding. Upon successful conversion to a direct hire employee, there will be an opportunity to transition to a hybrid work schedule based on performance and business needs.
We are looking for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses exceptional attention to detail, and has experience processing payroll for large employee populations across multiple states.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and manage high-volume, multi-state payroll accurately and on schedule.
- Administer weekly, bi-weekly, and/or semi-monthly payroll cycles.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Maintain and process payroll data including wages, taxes, deductions, garnishments, and direct deposits.
- Calculate and administer union-related payroll deductions, benefits, and contributions in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.
- Reconcile payroll reports and investigate discrepancies.
- Process employee status changes, including new hires, terminations, promotions, and compensation adjustments.
- Collaborate with HR, Benefits, Accounting, and Operations teams to ensure payroll accuracy.
- Manage payroll audits and provide supporting documentation as needed.
- Assist with quarter-end and year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and tax reconciliations.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and provide exceptional customer service.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of payroll processing experience in a high-volume environment.
- Demonstrated experience processing multi-state payroll.
- Experience handling union payroll and union benefit contributions.
- Strong understanding of payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, garnishments, and payroll compliance requirements.
- Hands-on experience with either:
- ADP Workforce Now, or
- Paylocity
- Strong reconciliation, reporting, and analytical skills.
- Advanced attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information.
